Getaways to Saldanha
About the area
Saldanha (also known as Saldanha Bay) is a quaint little coastal town about 1.5hrs drive up the West Coast from central Cape Town.
The town is located on a beautiful bay, naturally protected from the harsh Atlantic.
Saldanha Bay has a large iron ore port for exports of iron ore all the way from Sishen in the Northern Cape.
Keep an eye on our blog for reviews & experiences in and around Salhanha.
The West Coast National Park is nearby, alongside the Langebaan Lagoon (a neighbouring town) with wild buck, birds and huge open plains of flowers visible. Be sure to go early on a sunny day to avoid the long queues! The sun is essential for the flowers to open up well!
The Langebaan lagoon (neighbouring town about 30 minutes drive) is an absolute paradise for kite surfers (beginners to pro). You can book kite surfing lessons or kite surf as you please on the lagoon. On a good day you’ll see hundreds of kite surfers out at the same time.

Best time to visit
We would say September through March are the best sunny months to visit.
Take into account that November to February is the windy (South East) season, so August – September & February through to April would probably be slightly calmer.
Spring usually starts from late August into September and lights up the entire West Coast with beautiful carpets of wild flowers so that would be our recommendation as the best time to go as you’d have world class parks within 30 minutes drive from Saldanha.
