About the area
Oudtshoorn is situated in the Klein (little) Karoo, on the edge of the Garden Route, between the Outeniqua and Swartberg Mountain Passes.
Oudtshoorn is a popular tourist attraction because of the spectacular Cango Caves, a 20-million-year-old network of limestone chambers. But it is mostly famous for having the largest ostrich population in the world! And a to visit to one of the show farms in the area is highly recommended.
Come and enjoy the relaxed, friendly, hospitable atmosphere offered in this principal town of the Little Karoo. Here the air is still unpolluted, and you can experience fine local wines as well as the excellent cuisine of restaurateurs.

Although some may say the best time to visit Oudtshoorn is during the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (“Little Karoo National Arts Festival”), better known as the KKNK This is South Africa’s largest Afrikaans language arts festival, and takes place in the town on a yearly basis during the end of March or the beginning of April. In order to avoid disappointment, it’s usually best to book at least 6 months in advance, especially if you are booking summer holiday rentals.
